This is a watch that attracts envious stares, flattering comments at parties and the sort of coo-ing you usually associate with broody people encountering a baby in the park. Not because it's solar - no one knows that until you tell 'em - but because it's a handsome little timepiece from leather strap down to monotone face. I've been wearing it for a month. Should you get one too?
If you're used to splurging a bit of cash on a watch, the answer's yes: the £230 price tag is actually reasonable by lux watch standards.
The solar stuff works brilliantly but covertly - if you look very closely at the black face you'll realise it's made up of tiny photovoltaic cells - and will keep it ticking for life, unless you disappear into a cave for 30 days non-stop. Aside from the green value of never needing a battery, there's the fact that the watch'll last for life (swimming pool accidents excluded) since a lot of watches are simply dumped when their battery runs out.
The watch itself does job number one perfectly: telling the time. It looks superb, the strap's comfy and there's a stop-watch and option to switch between two time zones. Setting the alarm's a slow nightmare, though, and as Joho the Blog points out, learning how to adjust settings is torturous first time round.
