This little volume turned up last week, extolling the joys and eco benefits of picking an 'ethical' holiday. It's a good read, even if the typography and style is a touch redolent of a 1970s' guide-book, explaining what an ethical holiday's about - having a knees-up without hammering people or planet - and comprehensively listing places to stay by country.
The choice of 300+ hotels, lodges and treks looks spot on, as several friends spotted places in the book that they recommend. Whether there's enough info on each one, though, is debatable: there's not even a rough indication of pricing or capacity on each hol. The idea, I guess, is a directory that you use as a starting point rather than wasting eight hours of your time on Google.
The guide also kinda ducks the problem of all the CO2 pumped out by a trip to Thailand or South Africa, but it does helpfully suggest you pick a 'greener' airline such as BA - which lets you pay a donation to energy-saving projects - and offset your emissions using CarbonNeutral or Climate Care.
All told, the directory aspect justifies the £15 asking price: you can order your copy here.
