Fossil kinetic watches: far from prehistoric
Two more reasons not to buy a watch with an old-fashioned replace-me-after-a-few-years battery: Fossil's FS4171 (far left) and FS4132. Both are juiced up by the wonderful power of movement - remember kinetic physics from school? - and the FS4171 wins extra gadget points by having a visible red motor that moves round as you do. They're £55 each, which is roughly the same as Casio's slightly tackier solar watches. [via my day job at Stuff]. Related stories: Citizen's solar watch reviewed.
Hm, I got one of these. One year old and I already need a new one. The manufacturing is poor: very easy to scratch (not only the crystal but also the bracelet), the case back is 'genuine' tin, the power reserve is limited to almost a day, the date is hardly readable while the dimensions and weight is indeed from another century. Overall it's what you pay for.
