This picture serves two useful purposes: it's perfect for anyone recruiting anaemic hand models, and great for those who want to know how small the Scotty Solar Charger is. Like Voltaic System's solar backpack, it's capable of powering most gadgetry smaller than a laptop: namely phones, iPods, palmtops and GPS handhelds. The charger ain't new, but where it's being sold is: Maplins has just started stocking it in more than 100 high street stores.
The Scotty's not a bad bit of kit for something so small: one hour's sun will generate ten minute's talk-time on a phone, and you can clip the thing to your belt or bag. It'll set you back £35.
If you want to power more heavy duty kit with solar, Maplins has also started flogging 18 and 10 Watt Solar Panel Kits, which range from £100-180. Personally, I think the way forward is solar bags - I've written about the excellent Voltaic, trendy O'Neill one and flexible Juice Bag before on Hippyshopper.
