You can already buy your solar panels from the cliched spotty kid at Currys, so it makes sense that another bastion of adolescent acne - B&Q - is going to sell wind turbines. Starting October 7th, you'll be able to walk in store and make the first step to ordering a Windsave, one of the first gen home turbines (I wrote about it for Hippyshopper more than a year ago). Anyway: the important thing is it'll cut up nearly a third of the average 2/3 bed household's electricity bill, keeping around 2.5 tonnes of CO2 out of the atmosphere. That depends, of course, on how windy your 'hood is. The Windsave's not popped up on B&Q's site yet, but it'll cost you £1500 when it does go on sale. If turbines aren't the new conservatories in one-upmanship against the Jones, I'll eat my hemp hat. [via The Observer]
